This week I finally received Federico Albanese’s long-awaited “The Houseboat and The Moon" and ever since I’ve heard "Carousel #3”, it became sure that there’s a slightly big chance for loving the whole album. After getting another piece through the latest Denovali sampler with “Queen and Wonder”, I was dying to hear everything finally. The CD arrived on Tuesday but I was preparing for Nils Frahm’s concert so with some delay, after the gig for covering my imaginary wounds and diverting my thoughts I finally started listening to this masterpiece. Because it is. It cannot deny some similarities to Ludovico Einaudi but Federico has simplier and shorter sound visions in his mind, also enchanting melodies. Sometimes the piano gets some help from strings or effects but all in all, keys are leading everything. “Queen and Wonder” is kind of an odd-one-out with those effects but it’s a tricky one and this album cannot be imagined after that. I am seriously enjoying all the piano noises and the sometimes ambient-ish but rather modern classical world of “The Houseboat and The Moon”. And this is surely such a record that a future boyfriend has to accept and be able to sit and listen to it with me whenever I feel like.

One of my favourite modern classical artists, Carlos Cipa together with his girlfriend, Sophia Jani released a new EP, “Relive”. Sadly only two songs are on it but at least they are very long. The interesting fact is that these were written for the Essen based Denovali Swingfest and are performed using only a piano. The tracks are composed for four hands but they even use other parts of the instrument and make different noises with strings and beaters. This reminds me of Poppy Ackroyd’s music so I’m definitely into these kinds of ideas, also Carlos and Sophia work perfectly together and are in heavenly harmony. This EP is like a soundtrack for a shortfilm and only a repeat button can help to survive its shortness. I’ve been spending two afternoons with this EP and I have to say it’s a wonderful journey. Not an easy listening experience but it’s indeed an absolutely gripping EP.

Got this CD for reviewing and I have no words how I love the art and the design here. And I can say that the music itself is as beautiful as the look. It sounds like you are in the world of dreams and you are surrounded by some kind of spooky, mysterious atmosphere… You are just floating and in the background you hear this mesmerizing, somehow slurred, abstract, yet interesting and unusual music that expand the musical experience.

After finishing my best of lists, I wanted to check out some releases I had no time for. The first pick was Sebastian Plano’s debut album “Arrhythmical Part of Hearts" which immediately reached me with some marvellous songs. Correlated to his second album this one has more effects and it is full of varied ideas which makes me really impressed. Make sure you check out "Living”, “Emotions (Part III)" and "Homeage To A Soul”.

Since Cosmo was born from Given To The Wild demos that remained in the end, I got the mood the re-listen this (from now I finally can say) great record. All the feels are back with Forever I’ve Known, Heave, Unknown, Ayla… How could I not love this when it was 2012? …

This was a long way since its release till today. I started like “okay I never was interested in them even if I tried their music but somehow they never reached me and I don’t think they could surprise me with this album at all but let’s give a try - well, it didn’t hit me” and now I’m at the point where “okay the right time has come and this is such a freakin’ good record and it will end up on my best of lists”.

Finally writing the review about this amazing album by Sebastian Plano (I keep reading “Piano” though). After hearing it I wouldn’t have said it’s from an Argentinian musician but it is. I feel some similarities with Ólafur Arnalds and once even with Yann Tiersen but in the end I just love it. Perfect tunes for the autumn.
